Turning Impossible Into I’m Possible at Biscayne Ridge: Alexia’s Story
How Biscayne Ridge helped Alexia prepare for success after graduation.
As Biscayne Ridge High School’s first graduate, Alexia, known to her teachers and peers as “Lexi,” arrived nearly two academic years behind schedule. “I’ve had doubts about graduating for as long as I can remember,” she said. “I saw how many people believed in me and pushed me for so long. I felt like I couldn’t let them down.”
Once enrolled at Biscayne Ridge Lexi’s mindset quickly transitioned from impossible to I’m possible, as she committed herself to catching up and moving forward. Having found completing schoolwork at home challenging, the school’s structure of not requiring homework better aligned with Lexi’s academic needs. She also appreciated the added academic support and guidance she received from her teachers Ms. Barros, Ms. Castillo, Ms. Bergham, and staff including the Enrollment Coach Ms. Barbie, Career Coach Ms. Pinos, and her ESOL teacher who she refers to as “Mami.” “My experience here was different since it feels like everyone is family.”
Beyond meeting graduation requirements, Lexi fully embraced the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Through these experiences, she didn’t just complete coursework—she built a strong and lasting foundation for her future. Reflecting on her time in the program, she shared, “CTE classes are some of the few classes I will forever be grateful for. Helping me extend my knowledge in multiple fields, CTEs gave me a strong foundation.”
Today, Lexi is putting those skills into practice as a Media Digital Content Writer and Finance Associate. Despite having no prior work experience, she entered the workforce with confidence and quickly distinguished herself. Drawing on skills developed through courses such as Coursera Artificial Intelligence in the World, Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Principles of Entrepreneurship, and E-Commerce Marketing, Lexi applies her knowledge of AI tools, marketing strategies, and business concepts in a real-world setting every day. “The program really gave me the confidence and preparation I needed to step into the job and succeed,” she said.
Lexi’s journey is a testament to what can happen when determination meets opportunity—and a reminder that with the right support, any challenge can become a stepping stone to success.
