Live 5 News: Riverstone Brings Flexibility and Personalized Learning to the Lowcountry

Riverstone High School is opening its doors this August in North Charleston, and Live 5 News (WCSC) stopped by the campus to share what’s ahead. It’s a moment the Lowcountry has been waiting on for some time.

North Charleston has real demand for a school like Riverstone, and families in the community have been vocal about it. The response so far — from parents, from local partners, from students already signing up — tells us Riverstone is landing exactly where it’s needed.

The school will run two four-hour daily sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with open enrollment and free bus passes for students living more than 1.5 miles from campus. Principal Tamara Wynn and her team are ready to welcome students who benefit from flexibility, smaller classes, and a staff that gets to know them individually.

“We’re very intentional about breathing life to the students. We look at the student first and then, once they feel comfortable and confident and trust us, then we look at the academics and we support them and push them from there.” — Tamara Wynn, Principal, Riverstone High School

Families and neighbors are invited to Riverstone’s community block party this Friday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. The evening will include campus tours, a look at the school’s approach, ten local vendors, and time to meet the teachers. It’s an open door — come by, look around, ask questions.
