Abigail’s Journey From Catching Up to Graduating Ahead
How Aloma High School helped Abigail go from zero credits to early graduation.
Abigail transferred to Aloma High School as a freshman with zero credits and after having missed more than six months of school. “I enrolled at Aloma because it was the best option for me to succeed without graduating late.” Less than two years later, Abigail is graduating ahead of schedule.
Looking back, Abigail said the environment at Aloma played a major role in her success. “My first impression of Aloma was that it was a school dedicated to helping students graduate and succeed,” Abigail shared. The quieter campus helped her focus on her coursework, while teachers and staff consistently encouraged students to stay on track. “I felt safe and supported by everyone there.”
“I was also lucky to receive support from many people along the way,” she said. Mrs. Burns worked to recover credits from Abigail’s previous school, helping her regain valuable progress toward graduation while Mrs. Marquez, the school’s career coach, answered questions about college and organized presentations and activities. She also credits her school counselor, Ms. Sophia, along with Mrs. Lopez, Mr. Richmond, and Dr. G, for providing guidance and encouragement. The school’s programs and academic support systems helped her improve both academically and personally, leading her to earn a 3.5 GPA while strengthening her reading skills and confidence in the classroom.
“Looking back now, I can see how much I’ve grown,” Abigail reflected.
As she looks ahead, Abigail is considering attending college or joining the military. While she is still deciding which path to pursue, she says “whatever I choose, I now have the confidence that I will succeed.” Her advice to future students is simple: “stay consistent. “Show up every day, even when you don’t feel like it,” she said. “When you finally reach graduation, you’ll know it was worth it.”
