In and Out and On With Her Life
How Island Park helped one new mom find comfort and support to get her to her diploma – and ready for her new life
“There’s no drama here.”
For Marissa, learning in a traditional public school was already challenging. Having a baby only complicated matters. “In regular classroom, I couldn’t focus,” she says. “There’s drama, and people goofing off. When I got pregnant, it amped up the drama. I had really bad morning sickness and they didn’t know how to help me. I was stuck.”
Marissa came to Island Park on a mission: get in and out and on with her life. She says the school was 100% aligned with her mission from day one.
“I felt comfortable right away. It’s like I’d already been going here. It’s been great,” she says.
“The teachers at Island Park help a lot. If I need to review for an exam, they break it down for me, and it makes it easier. Everybody is so nice.”
As Marissa finished school and prepares for the next stage of her journey, she reflected on the difference Island Park has in her life.
“If you focus, and get your work done, you can do it. In and out. I’m just thankful for Island Park. I’m glad they kept pushing me.”
